Clinical Pilates & Rehabilitation

pliates studio classAs an increasingly popular type of exercise and body conditioning, Pilates is a powerful tool for improving movement, but not all methods are the same. Different approaches cater to various needs, from general fitness to targeted rehabilitation, making it important to choose the right one for your goals.

Clinical Pilates vs Studio Pilates

Studio Pilates and Clinical Pilates are both based on the same foundational principles of Pilates, but they have different focuses and applications. Studio Pilates classes are typically group sessions in a Pilates studio, designed to improve overall fitness, flexibility, strength, and posture using various equipment like reformers, a Cadillac (trapeze table), and mats.

These classes cater to a broad range of individuals, from beginners to advanced participants, and generally emphasise general wellness and fitness rather than addressing specific injuries or conditions. While the intensity of Studio Pilates can vary, the exercises are primarily aimed at maintaining or enhancing physical fitness.

Clinical Pilates, on the other hand, is a more specialised, therapeutic form of Pilates used to address injuries, manage pain, or support rehabilitation. It requires qualification by healthcare practitioners or trained Pilates instructors with experience in biomechanics, anatomy, and musculoskeletal conditions.
This approach is tailored to individuals with specific health concerns, injuries, or recovery needs and is commonly used for issues such as back pain or musculoskeletal disorders. The exercises are highly individualised, adapting to each person’s needs to restore or improve movement patterns and function.
